Emmanuel Episcopal Church

As reported in the Union, there will be a concert at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20th, at Grace Lutheran Church for the 20th anniversary of their Bigelow pipe organ.  Featured artists Marian Metson and Rex Rallanka will perform works by Dieterich Buxtehude, Healey Willan, George Shearing, Paul Manz and J.S. Bach.  They will play a duet by Beethoven and the concert will close with the glorious Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor by Bach.  There is no charge for the concert but a free offering will be taken with all the proceeds going to Hospitality House of Grass Valley.  A reception will follow the concert in the church social hall.  Grace Lutheran Church is located at 1979 Ridge Road between Nevada Union High School and the Ridge Racquet Club.

- BE SURE TO COME! - Fellowship time, formerly known as Coffee Hour, is a time to meet and greet each other and establish new friendships.  Father Seth and Vestry adopted the new name to emphasize fellowship first.  Although some treats will continue to be served, the Vestry Community Cluster hopes that the conversation and fellowship will outshine the food.  Most Sundays will feature a pared-down "buffet" and a new and less congested set-up in Buck Hall.  "Special" Fellowship Times will be held several times a year and will feature a more elaborate menu and setup.  Sign-up sheets for both types of gatherings will be posted towards the end of May for dates starting in June.

Note:  The meeting of the BCP workshop conducted by Deacon Lew will be Wednesday, May 30.  There will be no meeting on May 23.  The group meets in Buck Hall at 7:00 p.m.

ADULT EDUCATION CLASS

On June 3rd we will be honoring our High School graduates and the children of Emmanuel as the school year draws to a close.  We will be celebrating with a special coffee hour following the 10:00 a.m. service.  If you have a child graduating from high school this year, or if you wish to help with the coffee hour, please contact Barbara Boyer via the church office. 

The June Book Club selection is "Death Comes to Pemberley", by P.D. James.  The Club meets at 5:30 p.m., Monday,  June 4th, in St. Cecilia's Room.

BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) is a program for leading women into a deeper relationship with Jesus through a growing knowledge of the Bible.  Please consider this program if you are looking for spiritual growth.  More information and registration can be found at their website www.bfsinternational.org.  The local BSF chapter meets at Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley on Wednesdays at 9:10 a.m. or at Bell Road Baptist Church in Auburn on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m.  You can sign up anytime.  Some classes are suspended during the summer but re-start in September.

The Pioneer Park ministry will move from Trinity Episcopal Church back to Pioneer Park in Nevada City on Tuesday, May 22.  The ministry will continue at Pioneer Park until the late fall when it will return to Trinity as weather dictates.

Men from Emmanuel are invited to a retreat at Christ the King Retreat Center, Citrus Heights, on June 8 -10, sponsored by St. John's Parish in Roseville.  The retreat leader is Fr. Seth.  The retreat starts Friday evening and goes through Sunday morning.  Meals are provided and private rooms are available.  The cost is $180.00 and it is OK to make monthly payments up to a week before.  For more information click HERE to view the flyer in .PDF format.

A women's retreat is scheduled from Friday afternoon, July 13th - Saturday afternoon, July 14th.  We have a house reserved at Ananda that sleeps 12, double occupancy.  It is beautiful, with a place to meet and a wonderful garden, and only 35 minutes away from Grass Valley by car.  The cost is $108 per person and it includes dinner, breakfast and lunch.  If you have questions please contact Deacon Anne.

PreK- 6th grade from July 23-26, 9:00 a.m. - Noon.  Children's Chimes Choir will be from noon-12:30 p.m.   This year VBS will be at Peace Lutheran Church with Emmanuel and GV Methodist churches also participating.  Want to help?  For more information call Neila Whiting via the church office.
