St. Catherine's Guild

St. Catherine’s Guild, formerly called St. Agnes Guild, is a well-established women’s group of Emmanuel Episcopal Church that dates back to 1879. Among the many early assistance projects the Guild provided, in 1914 St. Catherine’s Guild donated the circular “Peace” window above the Church entrance.

THE PURPOSE OF ST. CATHERINE'S GUILD
Our goal for St. Catherine’s Guild is to unite the women of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in a program of worship, service, fellowship, and philanthropy, which will enable them to help meet the needs and mission of Emmanuel Church and contribute to the needs of mankind throughout the community. A member-elected leadership team leads the Guild.
THE GUILD MEETS MONTHLY
St. Catherine's Guild meets in Frank Buck Hall each month to learn, make decisions, plan two yearly fundraisers, and enjoy lunch together as relationships develop and flourish. These two fundraisers are the Waffle Sale and the Victorian Christmas Faire.
THE ANNUAL SHROVE TUESDAY WAFFLE SALE
Shrove Tuesday is a tradition that continues today, marking the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. The Guild continues to organize and host the Waffle Sale for the congregation and welcomes the public to a lunch or dinner meal of ham, eggs, and all-you-can-eat waffles for a nominal fee. All profits go to local community nonprofit organizations.
VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS FAIRE
Taking place on the first full weekend (Friday and Saturday) of November, the VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS FAIRE is held in Frank Buck Hall and is open to the public. During the Faire, attendees may purchase handmade crafts and soft goods, a variety of jams and jellies, jewelry, gift baskets, elegant edibles, children’s items, treasures old and new, and holiday decorations.

In addition, a Café is available, serving delicious items for a lunchtime meal of quiche, chili, soup, salad, baked potatoes, and slices of pie for a nominal fee.
All proceeds support local outreach through our community nonprofit organizations and Emmanuel Church.
The following nonprofit organizations receive annual monetary donations from the Guild
  • Booth Family House (Salvation Army)
  • Bright Futures for Youth
  • Community Beyond Violence
  • Foothills Compassionate Care
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Helping Hands Nurturing Center
  • Hospitality House
  • Interfaith Food Ministry
  • Mexico Mission - Clinical Filadelfia
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
St. Catherine ladies are also honored to provide Memorial Receptions when requested throughout the year. Poinsettia plants are joyfully delivered each Christmas by Guild volunteers to housebound women of the parish and the Guild collects children’s toys for the community “Toys for Tots” drive. In addition, Graduating High School Seniors who are
members of the church are celebrated with a gift and cake during fellowship.

The Guild also hosts Coffee and Fellowship Hour several times a year, where Guild ladies prepare and serve treats (sweet and savory). Busy and joyful hands here, striving to serve our Lord!

ST. CATHERINE'S PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE

You who dwell within us, praying unceasingly, fill us with love and devotion. Holy wisdom, guide us in the choices we must make. Give us discerning hearts that we may choose what is good, in accord with Your desire.
Lord God of Mercy, finish in us the work You have begun. AMEN.
